A Note on Temperature

The infrared sauna runs entirely on electricity. It produces radiant heat using infrared heating panels. They generate up to 14 microns long infrared waves, which deeply penetrate the pores of your skin and encourage sweating.

According to Dr. Emma Staff at Sunrise Specialty, “Unlike the traditional sauna, there is no heating the space around you. Therefore, the required temperatures are lower, usually from 100 to 150 F (38 – 65.5 C). However, most experts recommend the level of the temperatures for this type of saunas from 140 to 150 F (60 – 65.5 C) to achieve the best result. Basically, you will get the same experience as in a traditional sauna, but at much lower temperatures. It is possible because the infrared waves warm you from the inside out. On the other hand, in the traditional sauna, you need the hot air to heat you from the outside in.”If your doctor recommends using a lower temperature, please follow their instructions. Lower temperatures still receive the benefits of infrared therapy.

The heart receives a workout similar to a 6-mile run in a 20 to 30 minute infrared sauna session and produces an equivalent amount of sweat. The increase in blood flow stimulates the circulatory system and oxygenates the body's cells - just like a workout, but without working out! Infrared saunas are perfect for those that do not have time for regular exercise or suffer from injuries that inhibit activity.

Sweating is part of the complex thermoregulatory process of the body that increases the heart rate, cardiac output, and metabolic rate. For the body to create sweat, a large amount of energy is required. This process reduces excess water retention, salt, and stubborn fat. Fat becomes water-soluble at 110ºF and allows the body to release fat and toxins. Studies have shown that an infrared sauna session can burn between 200 to 600 calories.

Infrared heat improves circulation, overall skin tone, acne, stimulates collagen creations, reduces wrinkles, expels dirt & chemicals, and removes dead cells on the skin's surface. All of these benefits lead to a more soft, firm, and glowy complexion.

Infrared heat loosens the muscles and relaxes the body by decreasing cortisol and increasing serotonin. It naturally soothes the parasympathetic nervous system and signals the brain to induce a calm state. Infrared saunas are also used to treat drug and alcohol addiction. It's the perfect way to shut down the fight-or-flight sympathetic nervous system, which is highly active due to the stresses of our daily life.

Toxins such as alcohol, sodium, nicotine, cholesterol, and carcinogenic heavy metals (cadmium, lead, zinc, nickel) accumulate in the body during modern daily life. Naturally sweating rids the body of toxins but at a slow rate. Infrared heat stimulates the sweat glands to cleanse and detoxify the skin at a higher rate. Sauna sessions speed up the process and remove build-up toxins that would otherwise continue to build in the body if not released.

Infrared heat relieves pain by expanding blood vessels and increasing circulation, allowing more oxygen to reach injured areas of the body, and helps reduce pain and enhance the healing process. Many customers have found it successful in relieving pain from joints, arthritis, rheumatism, and muscle spasms from overuse, strain, or repetitive motion.

A fever accompanies most illnesses. During a fever, the body heats up to eliminate viruses and attack foreign agents. Often misunderstood, this temperature rise is a natural stage of the immune system's healing process. It is one of the best ways to rid the body of chemicals and unwelcome visitors by weakening the hold of viruses and bacterial growth. Infrared heat induces a fever-like signal by heating the body but without the pains of an illness. Subsequently, the body wards off invading organisms much more quickly because the immune system is activated consistently by the "artificial fever". Sauna sessions are a great way to reduce your risk of illness during cold and flu season.
